What a horrible movie. It's clear the movie studio had a script for a random film lying around and slapped "The Heroic Trio" title on it. Why is it set in a nuclear apocalypse? Why is Kau still alive and taking orders from Ching? Why does a woman barge into a police station and shoot the place up, killing multiple officers and no one seems to upset by that?
A mostly mediocre film saved by Michelle Yeoh, Maggie Cheung, and Anita Mui. They're fantastic in this and have great chemistry. The effects are good and the action is mostly fine. But the story is a mess. Plot points and characters both are introduced and forgotten about almost immediately. The main villain makes a big deal about this invisibility cloak, like that's going to help them, when he has super strength, is nearly invincible, and has an army of invincible zombies. I really wanted to like this movie, but its just not good enough (or bad enough) to stand out.
A truly fantastic comedy. Hilarious and bold. There are a lot of innovative ideas in here and they're almost all done perfectly. I laughed out loud more times to this film than I think I ever have watching a movie. It can also be heartfelt and touching, too. The only real complaint I have is that one character, the protagonist's best friend, Camilla, kind of disappears without explanation in the second half. But otherwise, I love this movie. Great characters, great acting, great dialog, hilarious jokes. Excellent, excellent movie.
